NPR’s Policy and Representation Team has begun a new congressional communications initiative to spotlight station-produced content that is broadcast nationally.
The initiative is led by Jess Schreibstein. It highlights public radio’s local-national news partnership anchored by local stations and the role federal funding has in supporting local journalism. Daily emails to legislators include transcripts, facts and figures so that the team can illustrate how stations bring local and regional coverage relevance and perspective to nationally distributed programs. The plan is to deepen congressional knowledge of the growing reporting role of stations and how national exposure helps improve local coverage.
