Join our public media staff as the Regional News Director for CoastAlaska and provide leadership to a committed team of Alaska journalists in Southeast and Unalaska. The successful applicant will be responsible for reporting regional broadcast and online news, coordinating regional news coverage and editing, producing and hosting news programs and managing social media connections.
The successful employee will have the following skills and personal traits:
- Collaboration and teamwork – Have a demonstrated track record of working with others on news gathering and reporting, communicating effectively, and providing editorial assistance to help grow journalism capacity region wide. - Journalism Knowledge – Solid mastery of the tenets of journalism, including ethics, interviewing, technical proficiency, series development, and quality production. Attentive to changing content delivery methods, especially online. Ability to broadcast and produce news stories in multiple facilities.
- Client Orientation – Clear understanding of the mission of public media. Willingness to mentor news staff and plan training for news departments. Understanding that every news team and station in CoastAlaska – as well as audience members and community stakeholders – is a client of CoastAlaska.
- Flexibility – Ability to work in a constantly evolving environment where it is necessary to prioritize multiple, competing tasks and determine significance of a particular issue. Consistently looking for ways to innovate to stay current, improve efficiency, and reduce costs. CoastAlaska is an innovative Alaska public media organization with eight member stations in Southeast Alaska and Unalaska. We have a growing complement of public media stations around Alaska using our services.
