Deanna Garcia got her first taste of public radio in Las Cruces, New Mexico where she was hired as a student news reporter in college. It was there, in 2001, that she fell in love with public radio. Deanna went on to NPR as a Morning Edition Intern in the summer of 2004. From there she was a local All Things Considered Host and Reporter at WXXI in Rochester, NY where she worked for former PRNDI President Peter Iglinski. From there she went on to be the local All Things Considered host at KUNC in Greeley, Colorado. After five years in Colorado, Deanna picked up and moved to Pittsburgh, PA to join the brand new 90.5 WESA Newsroom. As a general assignment reporter, assistant news director and now interim news director, Deanna has been a part of shaping a growing newsroom and public media organization. Public media remains a passion for Deanna. In her free time, she binge watches shows on Netflix (her favorites are not new – Malcolm in the Middle and Friends among them); reading; listening to Heart and following them (and Ann Wilson) on tour; and she and her wife Maria spend most of their time doting on their extremely spoiled Golden Retriever Stella MooCartney.
