Bill Dorman has been the news director of Hawai‘i Public Radio since February 2011. Born in New York City and raised mostly in New Hampshire and Pennsylvania, he spent 21 years at CNN in various positions behind the scenes and on the air in Atlanta, New York, Washington DC, and Tokyo. He was managing editor of Asia Pacific Broadcast for Bloomberg News for five years before moving from Tokyo to Hawai‘i in 2009. He’s covered stories from more than twenty countries and territories and his work has been recognized with a national Emmy and awards from the Overseas Press Club, the National Cable Television Association and other groups. His love of radio began with listening to night baseball games on a transistor radio tucked under his pillow.
